The MRW Story
In 1996 a young entrepreneur named Greg Mathis felt that the traditional methods of approaching new construction were distinctly out of step with the demands of the marketplace. So with the guidance of some industry veterans, he founded
MRW Design Associates. Greg’s intention was to provide a streamlined building design process for a public who was increasingly confused over time delays and cost overruns. MRW’s initial focus was to enhance the move into the future using the Design-Build method. Then the company evolved to also provide full traditional architectural services across all delivery methods. Greg’s brother Jeff Mathis also joined him in 1999 and obtained his Master of Architecture in 2007. So together they shaped MRW into the success it is today.
From the beginning, Greg made MRW a family business, by literally working with his siblings and by treating all of his employees and clients like family. Greg and MRW became a landmark of the local landscape in Southern Utah as he dedicated personal and company time and resources to many causes. He cared deeply about his community. He also cared deeply about the quality of the work MRW contributed to community landscapes.
Greg passed away in November 2018. He is exceedingly missed at MRW, but Jeff and the team are committed to continuing Greg’s legacy. MRW opened its new location in the heart of St. George in the Spring of 2019, and the building will always be a reminder of Greg’s love for his company, Southern Utah, and the many places where MRW’s work is standing.
